Vino Vérité is dedicated to highlighting the best new and innovative work in the vérité documentary genre. Since its founding in 2015, the series has brought some of the most compelling non-fiction cinema to Iowa City — alongside the filmmakers who made it.
The series has screened six Academy Award nominees for Best Documentary Feature, and has welcomed directors, producers, editors, and protagonists for in-person conversations following each screening.
"Vino Vérité" joins the Latin phrase in vino veritas — in wine there is truth — with the filmmaking term cinéma vérité — cinema truth — a naturalistic, candid approach to documentary storytelling that prizes honesty over artifice.
Vino Vérité screens at FilmScene in Iowa City. Visit the series page to plan your next visit.
